A trip to Methana...

(1st picture: No we are not at the tropics....)
"Love, how about Methana?" Sravroula asked me...
"Oh.... why do you want to go there? Have ever been there?" I answered her by actually asking her....
"No, I have not been there. Lets go somewhere close enough where we do not need other transportation means than our car." she answered.
So we started planning. But we had the help of Alina, who had just been to Methana. She provided all the needed information. We reserved a room at the hotel that Alina appointed and after the school, off we went to our destination. The route was about 170 km with fairly easy driving. But the road was full of twists and turns after Epidaurus. It took us two hours to arrive at our hotel. We arranged everything and went out for a walk. Although the weather was calm, Methana was practically deserted, accompanied with the absolute calmness. We did not hear the slightest sound. Our spirits were calming and enjoying with gluttony I would say the absolute silence. At night, we could barely hear the sea and this lullaby led us to sleep ...
The next morning I woke up at dawn. I looked out of the balcony to see how was the weather and I was mesmerised. It could easily say that we were at the tropics or in Bali or the Maldives islands. The beauty of the landscape incredible. I spent a few minutes looking with ecstasy at our wonderful country. Her beauty is indescribable and we talk about Methana !!! So close to Athens and the beauty indescribable. 2nd picture (It is Methana!!!!)
The necessary gears of the spearfishing had been loaded in the car during the previous night. So I left at once. I arrived very quickly in the fishing place I had chosen. After I got dressed, I swam and swam to get there. But it seems I did not remember the place well. I had fished it a decade ago with Spyros (Marinis and Christoforidis). I swam for two hours without finding the place and without seeing a fish worth catching. At the last dive, while swimming and while being in the middle of the dive, I felt a poke on my thigh. Thinking that my knife had fallen, I turned around to look for it. Next to my leg, at a height about two meters before the sea floor, there was a moray ell around 1.5 kilos. As I turned and shook my flippers, it disappeared in the seaweed that was below us. Probably the moray ell considered the camouflage of my outfit for a fish and as being unable to bite, it attacked me to find out what I was. The strange thing was that I did not have any fish on me. So many years I have been spear-fishing, I have never seen such behaviour from a moray ell and it was not a big one.... I swan to the beach, got into my car and went elsewhere. Now I was in the right place. I covered a long distance fishing, but the sea-basses were absent. At some point, while I'm on the surface nearby some rocks, I saw a good mullet. At first I did not want to deal with it, but the fish had suicidal tendencies. It kept swimming around me. When I realised that there was nothing better I shut it and caught my first fish in Methana, about a kilo (1,100 gr.). "I caught my first fish in Methana after 2.5 hours fishing, from the surface, without even diving. This is when, He Wants to give it to you !!!" I thought puzzled.
3rd picture.( the first & the biggest mullet). I kept fishing and caught another mullet of the same size. But the sea-basses were nowhere. I did not see one, not even a small one!!! I decided not to catch other mullets, even though I often met them. 4th picture.( one more mullet). In an ambush, after I left the mullets to pass, I saw something much wider coming straight at me. I activated the underwater camera and waited hidden in the seaweed. Ahead there was a medium-sized sea bream, but behind it was a nicer dorado. I ignored the sea bream and I focused on the dorado. By the time it entered in the range of my speargun, I pulled the trigger, aiming at the head of the fish. The fish managed to turn but the spear stroke it high in its neck. The dorado just sank, trembling from the weight of the spear. The shot was perfect, breaking its spine. I embraced and kissed it and put it with the two mullets.
5th picture. ( It was about time....). Shortly before I finished fishing, many big mullets passed in front of me. I caught one more and I went out. I entered the car and went to Methana Bay for a squick dive. I almost swam the entire bay, but I did not find anything worth catching. Only small fish were present. At times, the smelt were so many that I was expecting to see some predator following them. In vain though. I also noticed that the seaweed looked as if it had been combed, plowed and planted, with no stones. Just straight lines of seaweed.
6th picture. ( The plowed sea-weeds). These were marks from trawls. They encircle large areas by throwing their nets, that have weights at their end of the size of medium melons. They drag the tall nets to pick up the encircled fish, by raking the sea floor. They sweep everything, they destroy seaweeds, fish nests and whatever they find in their path. As for the fish, the smaller ones have been smashed by the weight of the larger ones or by the stones that have been caught in the nets. So the smashed fish are thrown back into the sea, since they are useless and can not be sold. It is estimated that 70% of trawl's catch is thrown dead back to the sea. The destruction has been done, and in order for some people to became rich, the seas have been dangerously emptied. And here I am trying to catch a big sea bass ....
I approached the deserted harbour. At the beginning of the jetty, there is a concrete, square tunnel, which drew my curiosity. I approached it and swam into it. The top of it had air and so I swam slowly in it. I was astonished. Smelt in incredible numbers. I could not believe what I was seeing. I waited for a while. "Some sea bass will pass...." I thought. In vain though. With such a feast, ready to be devoured and nothing appeared ... I swam back and I got out of the sea. I went to the room and changed. In the meantime, Stavroula had just woken up. When we got ready, we went for lunch . We ended up in the last tavern (the first one as you come to Methana) of Mr. Giorgos and we gave our orders. The appetisers were hiding from me, but none escaped. After six hours of fishing ... I was really hungry... We had the company of six geese, which of course we gave them some tasteful treatments. 7th picture.( The unexpected company...)
At the time we were eating, a lot of old cars passed in front of us. They were part of a local rally. When we finished our lunch, we decided to drive around to see Methana. So we drove to the beautiful village of Vathy. There we found all the old cars parked. All the cars were at great shape and they took part in a rally with starting and finishing point the island of Poros. All the cars were well-preserved, polished, revealing the love of their owners. But two of these wonderful cars captured our heart. You could see them in the pictures below.
8th picture(!!!!). 9th picture.(The two beauties together!!!!)
We sat down to enjoy some local sweets, in a local tavern, watching the start of the race. It was as if we had gone through a vortex of time in early 1900's. We also enjoyed the wonderful scenery. A fishing boat came out of the harbor and advanced on the silver waters of the Argosaronic Sea.
10th picture.(A lucky fisherman....)
The tranquility of the landscape was indescribable. On the horizon, the sea, the mountains and the sky became a beautiful silver-blue mixture. A mixture of perfection, tranquility, a miracle that only the Almighty One could had fixed, allowing us to live in order to enjoy them, even temporarily. Eventually we are living in one of the most beautiful countries of the world, but unfortunately we Greeks express the worst of our character. Rather than working together in order to find common solutions to the problems of our beautiful country and/or to ours problems too ... we only look after our puny selves without caring about anything else. But times are changing and our real self will be revealed. This is the good thing about our economic crisis. When things are easy going, we are all "large"and it is difficult to see the real character of the person. During hard times, like now, it is when the real character of a person is being revealed. After-all, when we will depart from this world, we will take nothing with us. Everything will stay here. The only "things" that we can carry with us to the other world, is what we really loved and embraced it with our heart. We can not pretend that we loved something. Everything is "transparent" there. The rest will stay here, in this three-dimensional world. With these thoughts we took the road back, enjoying the wonderful journey, to the city of Methana.
The next day was our last in Methana. Unfortunately we had to leave. The weather was like summer. A beautiful, warm and sunny day in the heart of the winter. We went to a beach to clean the few fish I had caught. Near-by there was a natural pool with hot water.
11th picture. (It is time for a hot bath!!!)
After a while, a gentleman came. He laid down in the warm waters and enjoyed his bath. As I cleaned the fish, a small cuttlefish came close to me. It hid behind a stone and observed the giant that had filled the sea with fish-smells and delicacies. I threw it as calmly as I could a piece of a fish I was cleaning, but it seems like I scared it because it swam away, the moment my offering touched the surface of the sea. 12th picture ( The end....)
After we had put the fish in the freezer, we took the road of return, with our batteries full of energy ....

Swimming with the eagles of Anvrakikos Bay.
(1st picture: Cloudy Paleros)

During a three day weekend that the school I am working was closed and off we go with Stavroula. The destination was Paleros and our special friends. We started early in the morning. In the back of my mind, I was planning a short dive on our way to Paleros. The new-built high-way reduced the enough the driving time, allowing us to arrive much earlier and restful on our destination. So just before the hotel, we stopped for a short dive in a new fishing place. I got dressed with the help of my sweetheart and dove eagerly I could say. The sea was beginning to cool off and it was quite blurry. I started my spear-fishing with an ambush. In some places the small fish were in such great numbers, that I was expecting to see big fishes hunting the smaller ones.. Unfortunately nothing appeared, nothing. Only the absolute calmness of the sea was present. In one of my ambushes, a large school of mullets swam in front of me. I could pull the trigger of my speargun and could easily caught some fish that was about a kilo. But the thought of a blue-fish or anything else following the mullets, I hesitated to pull the trigger. Unfortunately, nothing followed. A little further down on another ambush, three big bonito appeared out of the blue. The fish came from the opposite direction that I was waiting for, and when I tried to turn the speargun, they fled at great speed, without giving me the slightest chance to shoot or video them. As I was approaching the end of my fishing, I reached a deep under-water downhill. It was like living in a thriller, when I looked at Amvakikos' dark sea-bed. I dove into the deep two-three times without any success. I decided to do one last dive before I left, but I forgot to activated my underwater camera. I was ambushing looking at the deep sea, when I looked to my left. Shallower than me, there were some big sea-breams swimming. I turn my speargun towards the fishes and waited. Having the sun light above me, I was able to see their shadows more easily in the blurry sea. As I was waiting, I noticed a bigger shadow was approaching me with great speed. I could not figure out what kind of a fish was. Snapper? A very big sea-bream? Dorado? In order not to let it pass with its approaching speed, as soon as the fish entered the firing distance, I pulled the trigger aiming at the head of the fish. The shaft hit its target and as the fish turned. I saw it was a nice dorado. The fish disappeared into the blurry sea by unwinding some meters of rope from my speargun. While I was pulling the rope, the fish appeared from the deep and I turned on the underwater camera. The dorado was desperately fighting to escape, but the shaft has struck the fish under the eye and came out of the opposite cheek. As it came closer to me, I embraced the 1.6 kg dorado and I got out of the sea. (2nd picture: A good start...)
After we arranged my diving geart, we left for the hotel. We were greeted by Dimitris, Aglaia, Dinos and the two children. Hugs and kisses with everyone. Stavroula and I settled in our room and then went down to the kitchen to help preparing the dinner. Chef Dimitris had great plans, and his helpers Aglaia, Stavroula, Dinos and I were ready. I brought few fish and Dimitris added some more, in order to begin the preparation of the fabioulus dinner. He filleted all the fish. All the bones and fish-heads were put together and after some cooking time, a tasteful thick soup was ready. Stuffed squids with cheese were baked, salads were cut, shrimp were prepared, and the zucchini was barbecued. Then chef Dimitris presented a very beautiful and tasteful dish. When everything was ready, the tables were laid next to the burning fireplace. Everyone was ready to literary attack the delicious dinner. The lovely night found all of us around the fireplace telling stories and teasing each other .....
(3rd picture: Chef Dimitris and Aglaia). (4th picture: Preparations...) (5th picture: Bon appetite...)
The next morning the weather had changed. Dark clouds were approaching from the north. After finishing breakfast, Stavroula and I planned our next excursion, which would include an afternoon dive on a specific place. We started our excursion and when the right time approached, we arrived at the designated area, where I wanted to spear-fishing. I prepared my gears, got dressed and dove. The sea of Amvrakikos bay was once more blurry and cold. When I dove, I saw something big and brown beneath me. A big sea turtle was lying on the sea floor. Immediately I dove in order to capture it with my underwater camera. The turtle struck its fins and disappeared in to the dark blue sea. A little further down I saw an eagle-ray. I tried to get closer for a better shot with the underwater camera, but it flapped its fins and disappeared in to the blurry sea too. I continued diving. I saw many small fish, (dorados, mullets, sea bream and sea bass). They were running like crazy and disappearing into the blurry sea, terrified from my presence. I could caught some middle size fish, but I was looking for something much bigger. In one of my dives, I barely saw a long, black and slim eagle-ray tail moving away from me. In my next ambush, I saw a big-dark shadow approaching. A big eagle-ray appeared in front of me, looked at me, changed its course and got lost calmly in the murky waters. After that incident, I saw a big shadow approaching me from above. The entire movement of the shadow was revealing resembled to me that it was another ray. Few seconds later, a big eagle-ray appeared in front of me. The ray came closer to inspect the dark object that was laying on the sea floor. As it came close enough, I raised my speargun and just touched the tip of its fins with my speargun. Immediately the ray hit its majestic wings and got lost with incredible speed, in this blurry and thick as a soup seawaters. Surprising enough, it was followed by another eagle-ray that was approaching me with all its beauty and grace. The movements of these creatures are so harmonious and fairly have been given the name eagles. They literally fly in the sea. Their swimming patterns are so calm that they blend perfectly with in this amazing and peaceful environment. The eagle-ray came to observe me keeping a safe distance between us. After looking at me it vanished in its whole grace in these murky waters, showing me its long tail. I had a shot at all five rays and certainly after a long fight I would catch at least one eagle-ray. But why should I do it? There would be no reason to ruin the tranquility that these beings were sending out to the environment.
(6th picture: One of the big eagle-rays....) I continued my ambushes for a long time, with out seeing anything worth while shooting. I decided to return to the beach, where I had parked my car, diving wherever I thought it was worth it. In one of my last dives, a big shadow appears next to me after only 25 seconds past of my diving time. It passed in front of me and on its side there was a dashed silver line. I could not figure out what a fish was. Without any hesitation I pulled the trigger. The rope from my reel was unfolding quickly. It could not be a sea bass, because it was a very wide. It was not a blue-fish because it did not pull with great force that the blue-fish are famous for. I did not know how accurate my shot was in these murky waters. I turned off the camera in order to deal with the fish. The blur on the surface of the sea did not allow me to see what fish was and its size. After few agonising minutes I got it in my hands. I was delirious from joy. I had managed to catch a tiger-tooth croaker. The shaft had found it on the side fin and came out of its mouth. I could easily walk on top of the sea surface out of my joy !!!!!
( 7th picture: The 10 kilos tiger-tooth croaker was caught!!!!) Thanking the Heavens I went out without diving any more. I did not know if it came alone, but I did not care to find out at all. I went out to the beach signalling  to Stavroula to bring a camera. After several photos were taken, we hit the road towards the hotel. At our arrival to the hotel, the weather burst into a heavy rain with lightning and thunders. We gathered around the fireplace enjoying the company of our friends until late at night.
( 8th & 9th pictures and video) On our last day the weather had a surprise for us. The weather welcomed us with blue skies and a beautiful sun shine. Dimitris, after a suggestion from Marinos, prepared his boat for a small cruise on the Ionian sea that would include a dive. We loaded everything and sailed away for a new adventure crossing a waveless and beautiful sea. We went to the place we had chosen and dove. Stavroula and Dimitris laid the table with delicious treats... Marinos and I were thinking: "Should we also take part in the feast instead of spear-fishing?" But the call of the sea was much stronger. So we dove. The sea floor was muddy. Wherever we found rocks, mostly small fish were there. Each of us caught a mullet. In one ambush small basses and mullets came to me. Next to them there was a school of striped sea-breams, grazing small crustaceans in the sea bed. I ignored all the other fish and concentrated on them. At the end of my ambush, I caught a 400gr fish. The rest disappeared and we never saw them again. I decided to go for a deep dive and so I approached the boat. I gave them some extra weights from my diving belt that I needed to got rid off and started preparing myself for the deep dives. The deepest dive was at -25.6m and I landed on a muddy sea floor. The sea floor was covered with mud. I looked around and the only living thing was an octopus in front of me!!! "What are you doing here?" I wondered. I aimed at it, shot it and ascend towards the surface. I managed to catch a two kilo octopus and it was the deepest octopus I've ever caught so deep. That's where my fishing ended. ( 2nd video)
I was so hungry that I devoured most of the delicious treats in a matter of minutes. After a while, Marinos returned to the boat as well. He had caught two good sea-breams and a good dorado got away, according to him. After having enjoyed the dishes, we sailed back to the small harbour of Paleros. Stavroula and I loaded all of our stuff to the car, we bid farewell to our beloved friends and hit the road towards Athens. We were going to meet in Athens to feast on the tiger-tooth croaker !!!!!!

P.S. The tiger-tooth croaker was weighed 10.1 kilos and I think it's a catch of a life time. I hope to be mistaken in the future with a bigger catch of the same spicies!!!

The summer of 2017..... is over!!!!
(1st picture:  My companionship in this dive!!!)
The weather prognosis was showing that tomorrow it will a very nice day. Since I could go for fishing, why should I miss the dive? I loaded all my gears in the car and I was off early in the morning. I knew the diving place well and so I did not have any hesitations where to fish. I arrived where I wanted to dive, got dressed quickly and started swimming. It was exactly as the weather prognosis was stating. The sea with minimal waves, a warm day and everything was calm. I swam to the place I wanted to fish, without looking at the various rocks I met on my way. I was struck by an anxiety to get to the deep place as fast as possible. After swimming several minutes I reached my destination. I placed my buoy near by and I got prepared for to make my first ambush in order to observe what fishes were around and also to prepare my lungs for the deeper dives that would follow. I took a deep breath and dove, landing on the sea floor next to the deep cliff. The seconds were passing and my lungs were starting to complain. But before I got off the bottom, I noticed a movement a few meters deeper. Immediately I forgot everything and I concentrated on the movement. I turned my big wooden speargun towards the target and I pushed my self  with my hand, without moving my flippers and plunging towards my goal. As I have reached a few meters deeper, I saw a large school of toothless jacks grazing on the sand. Without a second thought, I aimed at one of the biggest fish and pulled the trigger. The shaft swallowed the distance with incredible speed and hit the target. But I have made a pleasant mistake. Yes, I managed to achieve my goal but at the same time, out of pure luck, a second fish was caught. The most amazing thing was, that both fish were almost dead. A perfect shot, because the shaft went where I wanted to, but also a lucky one, because killed the second fish too. The fishes were driven by the momentum of the shaft and there was not a single resistance by them. (2nd picture: if you are lucky....) (1st video)
I pulled the rope of my speargun gently, bringing the two fishes closer in order to complete my underwater video. All this at the first dive! After kissing the two toothless jacks and apologising to them for the pain I caused them, I hung them on my buoy and continued the dives. I did a few more ambush but nothing big appeared. However, from time to time, the small fish made some strange movements. They were swimming quickly to the rocks, but immediately stopped. I made some deeper ambush, in case something big were passing by, but I did not see anything. In an ambush that I had hidden very well, I noticed the guilty ones that were creating the pseudo-panic. Small snappers of 100 or 200 grams were swimming up and down on the cliff. They came from behind me, passed me, turned and looked at me and disappeared in the deep.
"I hope we will meet in a few years or if you want you could call your mother or your father ...." I thought. As if the Universe listened to me ..... In my next deep ambush, I notice the various small fish being a bit scared. At some point the small fish dove all together towards me. I realised that the hunter was coming from the shallows. I was looking to find where it was. A beautiful snapper appeared above me, for few hundreds of a second and when it saw me, fled to the deep sea, without giving me the slightest chance to take a shot. The fish came close to the cliff wall, so I did not have the chance to see early enough to get prepared. I did not mind at all. I was just glad to see this wonderful creature. I also searched some well-known rocks, but they were deserted. After a while I decided to drink some of the water I have on the buoy. As I approached it, I saw a cloud of small fish attacking the toothless jacks. The fishes were nibling the two toothless jacks trying to get their revenge for the various hunters that hunted them.... (3nd picture: the revenge of the small ones!!)
While I was resting, I noticed some perches had gathered next to me, ignoring me. "Something is there that seems more interesting to them than me ..." I thought. I approached and looked at the rocks. With difficulty I was able to see the octopus. It had made a three-dimensional variation that looked like the rocks. I dove and touched a little to see it better as it changed colours. His two front legs were eaten and they had just barely reappeared. Who had grabbed them? Who knows? It was not over kilo and I left it in its stillness.... It had several problems with the small fish. I did not want to add another one. If we met again after few years, then ....(4th picture: The two front legs were reappearing!!!)
As I continue to rest, until the next dive, just below where the octopus was, there was some sea spaghetti. A great anemone has stretched its tentacles and laid them on the bottom. My hunger made it look like a spaghetti, but a very spicy one, I would say for anyone who wanted to try it.
(5th picture: A spicy spaghetti for whom ever wanted to try it!!)
I had touched my hand on a rock to have a better balance, while resting, as there were some waves from the various passing by boats. I turned to observe the rock in order to find a better grip and saw a small goby. The fish had come out of his hole and looked at me. It had wide opened his black eyes and was looking at the giant who had invaded its area. Even the slightest movement of my fingers was scaring the goby, who looked for refuge in its tiny stony hole. I smiled watching the whole scene and slowly I pull my hand in order not to scare it anymore. I am pretty sure that I caused it several heart attacks with my presence.... (1st picture) I continued to dive and ambush several times on the sea floor, without seeing anything I wanted to catch. In one of my ambushes, a large school of small-silver sardines appeared in front of me."Any large predator in the area will come to be fed on the sardines ...." I thought and dove. I landed on the sea bed and waited. The small fish looked terrified. The small black damselfishes were almost hidden under the rocks. I was looking to find out where the predator was and from which direction it would appeared. A little perch had come to see me. It passed under the speargun. Then some colourful blenny fishes came to see if there was something to grab. The seconds were passing ... I looked on my right and as I turned my head to the left, I saw a bonito coming nearer. The fish ignored me and swam towards the sardines at such speed that it allowed me to turn the big wooden speargun, and as it prepared to attack the sardines, I pulled the trigger. The shaft was ejected at incredible speed and stuck the hunter just before its tail. But the shaft had struck the bonito diagonally and came out on the other side next to its neck. With its speed the shaft pushed and sent the bonito among the sardines. The sardines were scared, but also coordinated, thus immediately created a hole in the school to avoid the hunter. The bonito could not swim and sank. (5th picture: The three kilo bonito) I pulled the rope, trying to get the best possible video. I embraced the bonito as well .... I had caught the only hunter I had seen for quite some time. I did two, three more ambushes but I did not saw anything, even though the sardines were present. The black damselfishes had come out of the rocks, a sign that there was no hunter around. It was time to leave. I had caught more fish than I had expected. An old friend of mine appeared behind the rocks. It was my tiredness. Always hidden behind the rocks, smiling wickedly. Greeting my tiredness I took the road home...... (2nd video)
P.S. The bigger toothless jack was 2,45 kg, the smaller 2,2 kg and the bonito 2,75 kg

Mike, the white grouper and the barakountas.

(1st picture :Mike, myself and the trophies)
Photo-video: Zacharias Skevofilax, Michalis Maisson.

Mike and I have been friends and colleagues for many years. The last years we came closer, since he decided to start apnea spear-fishing, besides his other hobbies, as being an expert on martial arts and flights as a certified pilot. We have tried several times to go spear-fishing, but everyday life put obstacles on our way. Always something happens and our plans for fishing were postponed . But one hot summer morning we did it. We met at dawn, loaded all our gears into his car, which is more spacious than mine, and we hit the road. While driving, we planted our dive. We would swim up to the cape, where we wanted to fish. One would watch the other and the dives would be in turns. In the meantime, we have the necessary rest between the dives so that we do not face any danger while enjoying our hobby. For us, spear-fishing is a simple and pleasant hobby. We do not need to prove anything to anyone. Our existence does not depend on spear-fishing. If the sea provide us with any fish, it will be fine. Our purpose is to enjoy a pleasant morning and nothing more.
We arrived and we wore our gear with impatience I can say. A wide smile was engraved on our faces. We swam up to the cape, where our fishing began. There was an incredible calmness in the landscape. We searched for some rock, that had previously given me some fish, but they were all empty. Then we started our aspetto. Some dives were in the shallows, others were deeper. The schools of small fish were present, but completely calm. The sea had little ripples and the day was a pure enjoyment. Quietness ..... you did not hear the slightest sound. Our spirit was calming. The serenity of the sea helped to that. The waters were warm enough, but blurry and above all calm. In the fourth or fifth dive for aspetto, I landed on the sea floor and in less than five seconds a big white grouper appeared behind the rocks. The fish probably was hunting behind the rocks and when I landed on the sea-bed, it came to see what was what making the various noises. Do not forget, that fish can hear our heartbeats, as experts say. I could not believe what I was seeing. So many times I have come to this place and have never seen a white grouper. I continue my ambush, hiding between the rocks, waiting for the beautiful fish. The white grouper, without any delay, passed in front of me, in all of its glory. I did not wait any more and I pulled the trigger. The spear stoke the big fish on the reebs, next to the side fin. The white grouper plunged for the deep. In order not to let the fish to get under a rock in the deep and have unexpected troubles, as I knew my shot was very good, I pull the line of my speargun powerfully. (2nd picture: During the fight...) At the same time I shouted to Mike, who came very fast. Meanwhile, I had brought the fish close to us. After a few seconds, I had it in my arms. Hugs, Kisses with the white grouper ..... Mike was also very happy... (3rd Picture; ...the battle is over....)
"If you want to leave ..." I told him teasing him and we laughed. We had caught a wonderful fish, and after we put it on the buoy, we continued our dives. Video. The dives succeeded one another without seeing anything special. The day was passing pleasantly and calmly.  The calmness of countless small fish also helped. Whether we were deeply diving or shallow, everywhere it was the same calmness. Calmness is wonderful , but that means there are no big fish hunting around. I went to drink some water that I had hanged on the buoy and looked on the wonderful white grouper again. As I looked around, I noticed a big, semi-transparent jelly-fish was swimming next to me. Its size was as big as a volley ball. Around its head, the Poet of Heaven, reviled His glorious majesty through a dark-blue crooked line, to colour it as well. This jelly-fish had short but fat legs. I did not know if it was stinging and I did not want to find out. I touched it and changed direction in order to get a better shot with my underwater camera. When I finished, I thanked it for its presence and I went to see what Mike was doing. But I forgot that I had touched the jelly-fish in the head and as I touched my left cheek, I felt a familiar burning. (4th picture: Beautiful but dangerous.... )
"So you belong to the species that sting ....." I said to myself and I rub my hands with sand to remove any remained toxin from my gloves. I node to Mike to dive and that I would watch him. Not a minute had passed and I heard something like a shot. I looked better and I saw him emerging with the spear missing from his speargun. With quick moves, he picked up the rope and I saw a barracuda on his spear. As I approached him, I noticed that something else still shining on his spear. Mike has managed to make a double killing !!! I turned-on my underwater camera, but nothing happened. I notice it has been filled with drops of moisture. "I hope you have the shot of the white grouper, otherwise you are in trouble ...." I told to my underwater camera .....
"Many fish came in my ambush and I waited for the biggest one to pass in front of me. When it happened and the moment I was ready to shoot, I noticed that, just behind the big one there was another fish. I aimed, shot and caught both. .. " he told me in joy.
"Congratulations Mike ..." I respond to him.
We also placed the two barracudas on the buoy along side with the white grouper and continued our fishing for a while. The day rolled calmly and beautifully, but without seeing anything else worth catching. So after four hours of submarine nirvana, we decided to go out. We swam to the beach. I took my camera out of its housing and pressed the switch. Miraculously, the camera worked for a few seconds and then turned off. These seconds were enough for us to have some photos of our fish on the beach.
(5th picture: No comments).
The White grouper was cut into slices and entered the freezer for future use. Of course, some fslices never entered the freezer ... yam ... yam .... It had swallowed a whole cuttlefish. The fish weighed 6.5 kg. Mike told me that the big barracuda was 1.5 kg and the smaller one was 1.2 kg !!!
(6th picture: Companionship with the cuttlefish.....)
